I'll teach you hon. :wink:

But seriously, Nyvveck is a great help. His teaching style is much like yours Dariis. For a moment I thought he was your alt. I think you two will love RP'ing with eachother. You are both old school TKM's. :D

We had an impromptu learning session last night in Nocturnus. It was a lot of fun.

You'll be able to pick it up pretty fast.

Yeah, I was thinking about adding a macro to my KD to remind me when I could use it again.

something like:

/pause 30;
/tell Ekade KD timer is up! Time to pwn that kiter!;

I've noticed that timing is very much the key to duels. I learned, in a long duel with Kirt, that you should not begin your "killing routine" too soon. If you do, it falls short every time and your opponent just heals up and you have gained little.

The art seems to be in manuvering your opponent into a position where they are at risk, and then making your strike. It is very much a chess game.. and I am having a lot of fun learning how my opponents play. Templates, gear, consumable, and game mechanics are fun.. but how each player behaves in certain situations is fascinating.

Another interesting facet is how offense and defense blend. You have to apply a constant pressure, offensively, in order to defend well. You protect yourself by keeping your opponent on their heels. And vice-versa, by playing a good defensive game, you afford yourself offensive opportunities.

Then comes baiting, taking risks to lure your opponent into dropping their guard. I am not really good at that yet, or avoiding it. I get greedy. :wink: But I am learning.

yeah thats the trick I find too, hit them with a constant amount of damage, find their healing "comfort zone" then plan to kd, and 1-2 powerhit them for an unexpected incap.

Good thing I am a master baiter.

In all seriousness, it sounds like the guy who gets a feel for his opponent first is going to win right?

So, my question is this...how does the "glass cannon" as I believe it was called, manage to win anything? You HAVE to come with the boomstick right off the bat or else you are going to get smote handily. In theory it should be a hit or miss kind of approach, but it sounds more like (if you are fighting an opponent who is relatively skilled) it is a miss or miss approach. Does the stim/bliel thing give them enough of a chance to heal themselves, too? Or do they have to pray that their opponent's CL is low enough to keep their hitpoints in a range low enough for you to kill em?

Granted, my experience in PvP is what you might call limited. I killed a couple CL 5's and then got bent over the table by Nyvveck. That's about it?

glass cannons work because they deal out so much dps a stim/bliel combo would leave you with a full stomach in notime, a smart glass cannon is very deadly. Keep in mind a glass cannon can stim/bliel too, and with stim/bliel your cooldowns aren't affected (like if you actually heal yourself with med skills) so you keep pumping out massive damage while the other person can't kill you, so they get trapped ina healing cycle and can't ever get out of it, stomach fills and they die.

The ideal glass cannon temp i'm working on would be:

Mrifle/smuggler/2-2-0-3 pistols

This allows:

super burst damage, and when your action gets low and they've already blieled (13 filling for best around) at least twice, you concussion shot them, this means they can't move for 40 seconds. Now the only way to heal while mezzed (concussion) is to stim, even for a jedi. So if you also catch them at low health here, they will be forced to bliel stim even more or risk being one shotted by a sniper shot. This allows the glass cannon to become a hybrid, i have dubbed "The Control Cannon"

Catchy no?

Anyway, i'm torn between this template and Creature Handler/SL for Zo's new style, i've proven (not to sound cocky) that i can beat anyone on the server 1v1 with my current temp, so time to try something new.

Truly, there is not really much "glass" in this game. All combat professions can defend themselves with armor and food, and everyone can heal themselves to varying degrees.

Most players will build some form of defense into their templeate, be it healing, rooting, "mezzing", whatever.

Also keep in mind that Offense *is* defense. If you drop your opponent to half health or less, they better stop attacking you and take care of that.

Me, I am still learning the post-CU PvP game. As such, I ask a lot of questions and try to duel helpful and more experienced people. I am starting to get a good feel for my strengths and weaknesses.

Also keep in mind that duels are not the end-all-be-all of PvP. Having a template that helps your team the most is much more important than being a uber dueller, in my opinion. The "Glass cannon" would be killer in group PvP as you can apply whoopass at range and focus fire to drop people fast.
