Not to get in a pissing contest BUT....
That info I supplied wasn't for pissing contest material. Simply to show that the Star Wars kid has it pretty easy. If he can't segue all of that internet "bad press" into good-natured visits with Good Morning America, etc., that's his problem.
STAR WARS KID STRIKES BACK!!
Nah, I'm not trying to compete either, but I'm saying that the kid was what, 12-13 years old at best when that happenned? And he's not far from that now.X'an Shin wrote:

Is he supposed to be a "Spin Doctor" at that age? Is anybody? Were you? And the fact that he's not just shows that he's a kid. And it shouldn't be his "problem" for not being media savvy at teen-age. Good Morning America? Day-um! If that's the case then why shoot so low? Get an agent to dial up Charlie Rose or Jim Lehrer.
As far as having it "easy" I don't know. We had to deal with some things, sure, but being an object of ridicule worldwide (at 13!) isn't my idea of easy. It's just as hard but in a different dimension, that's all. What's better, burning or being microwaved to death? See what I'm saying?
I guar-ON-tee that you'd change your tune if if was your kid that had the whole world laughing at him/her. And you'd want the rest of the world to give him/her a break too!
Can you honestly say that you'd tell your future teen, "What's the matter with you, huh!? Hustle up! Get that money for the family lil' soldier! If you can't segue this situation then it's your problem" ?
Nah, I don't see that happ'nin, bro-ham.

But in your example, you're not taking into account that THE KID WALKED INTO THE FRICKIN' MICROWAVE. It's not like a microwave sneak-attacked him, or jumped out of the bushes, or jumped him in a dark alley. He walked inside, and thought it would be a good idea to shut the door, and then was shocked. SHOCKED, when someone pushed the buttons and turned it on.Smug Druggler wrote:As far as having it "easy" I don't know. Then everyone who made fun of him tried to make it up to him and got like $4,500 in an online donation to buy him an iPod and laptop with. I'd say that's not too bad for being an idiot.
That's the thing. I have a kid, and if this happened to her, you know what I'd say?I guar-ON-tee that you'd change your tune if if was your kid that had the whole world laughing at him/her. And you'd want the rest of the world to give him/her a break too!

"I hope you learned your lesson. Never videotape yourself acting like an idiot and then bring it to school." I believe in tough love, not coddling an idiot.
Christ man, I DID have more sense than that at 12. Give me some credit. Have you seen tapes of me making an ass of myself at 12 (and believe me, they exist)? No? Come to think of it, I haven't seen any tapes of anyone on this board, or anyone I even know. It seems that there are MANY people who have more sense than to be that stupid, videotape it, and then bring said evidence to school.
Case closed.
Don't get me wrong, I feel sorry for the kid, but I'm not about to sit there and feel 1 MILLION POUNDS sorry for the kid. Coddling idiots like this is the reason kids get into these messes. We were ridiculed. We learned.

You're taking that way out of context. If he knew that the tape was going to go on the 'net and that he was gonna get lampooned by the world then, yes that would have been something different, but still not quite what you're talking about, though.X'an Shin wrote:

Well, now we see the essence of the debate:X'an Shin wrote: That's the thing. I have a kid, and if this happened to her, you know what I'd say?

You equate being a child with being an idiot.
I do not.
I believe that being a child is being a child. Kids don't know any better. They lack experience. That's why they're kids. Adults, at least qualify to know better. You'll find your idiot pool centered among them.
Congratulations. You truly had shrewdness beyond your years if that's the case. Seriously.X'an Shin wrote: Christ man, I DID have more sense than that at 12. Give me some credit. Well there we are. It was hard to tell, though. I don't know about a million pounds, but I measure children and adults with different rulers.X'an Shin wrote: Don't get me wrong, I feel sorry for the kid, but I'm not about to sit there and feel 1 MILLION POUNDS sorry for the kid.

Even though it's "done," I'd also like to say that I agree with X'an in that the kid set himself up for this. I'm sure he's ashamed and has quite a bit of weight to bear over it, but I don't think he should be getting any monetary compensation for it.
Then again, if he did, he's looking for around $250k Canadian. That's like $11 American, right? I'll send it to him myself.

Yeah that exchange rate sounds about right... 250k minus the fee to the great moose, him fixing up his mobile igloo... ohh i'm sorry it's not mobile, it's modular igloo, and the tribute he has to pay to the Beer mafia... that leaves him with about 150k Canadian.... but factor in the exchange rate and he actually is in the negative, so the exchange person will just take his money, kick him in the groin, and ask him if he was that weird kid from the light saber video.TramelRaggs wrote:Even though it's "done," I'd also like to say that I agree with X'an in that the kid set himself up for this. Wait this just in.... he did in fact win the case, it seems he went out and spent all of it already on an exact replica of Darth Vaders outfit, a replica saber, and a brand new video camera.... :P
