This is my favorite, and it's a simple one that I believe sums up in a scene all I love about the original trilogy...
When Luke walks out of Beru and Owne's place and watches the twin suns set. "Binary Sunset" is my favorite piece of SW music and it adds a lot of power to that scene. To me, that moment is the point where Luke becomes more real to me as a character than any other. He walks out and watches the suns set...his life as a farmboy ends at that moment (although he doesn't know it) and the new dawn will bring a new future for him that he doesn't even know is coming. To me, this is the best scene Lucas ever wrote and it doesn't even have any dialogue. When you go back and watch it, it represents hope as the light of day fades and night falls...hope for a future and a life that holds more meaning.
Anyway, that's my favorite.
Recharging the Batteries: Favorite Episode 4 Scenes, Anyone?
Runner-up to my previous picks is the first take-off of the Millenium Falcon.
Dodging the firefight at the Hangar, it lifts, tilts, and swivels up & around. Then comes the boom of the main engines (I always turn the speakers up a bit before that part).
There's reaction by the people on the ground, like "Whoa!".
It's the first time that the audience sees a ship in motion in atmosphere, which I think adds to the effect.

Nice, Zannon. Nice. I agree, that scene is a profound one and for all the reasons you said.Zannon wrote: When Luke walks out of Beru and Owne's place and watches the twin suns set. "Binary Sunset" is my favorite piece of SW music and it adds a lot of power to that scene.
A young adult trying to find his true place. That scene grounds me to the human side of the story. Shows that it's not all laser bolts and fantasy.

Novall always busts my chops for using this line..
"When I left you I was but the learner..
Now I AM the master."
This makes you more aware that Obi-Wan and Vader had a history. There is so much more going on that we know about, but it makes our imaginations run wild with possibilities.

Thats the thing, it used to make our imaginations run wild, now we just think of Episodes I and II.Ekade wrote:This makes you more aware that Obi-Wan and Vader had a history. There is so much more going on that we know about, but it makes our imaginations run wild with possibilities.

I'd have to say this one's one of my favorites as well. Also on the list...Sepiv wrote:When Luke tells "Old Ben" that his droid is looking for someone called "Obi-Wan Kenobi" and you see that look on Alec Guinness' face -- the music harkens back to so long ago a time he had almost forgotten even it had been so long. You can just like see the flashbacks going through his mind and imagine. "Obi-Wan Kenobi...Obi-Wan...now that's a name I've not heard in a long time...a long time." Maybe it's a moment hero worship that gives me the goosebumps. I loved Obi-Wan as a character (ok, differently than Han Solo but you know what I mean). He was the wisened Shaolin teacher or samurai warrior.

This is one of my favorite lines of all time, but only because I like to use it for mockeryEkade wrote:Novall always busts my chops for using this line..

Since everyone knows those lines (and the following line from Ben), we recorded on this little Darth Vader head I had only Vader's lines recorded (with the original timing), and you'd get someone else to play Ben's line, and we added one line at the end, so it goes like this:
VADER: "When I left you I was but the learner, now *I* am the *Master*."
BEN: "You're only a Master of evil, Darth."
(PAUSE)
VADER: (in a childlike mocking tone) "Muhmuh mnnm muh muh muh."
It needs to be heard, because it sounds like Vader doesn't have a comeback to that line (as he says nothing in the film), and just gets frustrated and repeats Ben's line back in jibberish.

So this thread made me decide to pop in A New Hope at work today. I was watching the scene where they get the stormtroopers to come on the millenium falcon and you hear the blaster fire. The next scene is everyone breaking into the control center above the bay. What happened to the bodies of the 2 scanning technicians who went aboard and the 2 stormies? Did they all die? Did the tech's get knocked out and tied up? Its not really important but it could make for a where are they now episode on Imperial TV.
I dunno. I look at this stuff too closely sometimes. Maybe I should ask SD Zannon.

I've thought about this before as well. I always assumed they hid the bodies under the floor boards (where they hid to avoid detection). Then later they dump them into space.

And I always wondered 1) why the hell didn't anyone hear blasterfire just up the ramp and 2) how did the stormtrooper outfits look undamaged after? Oh, and a SWG dumb follow-on is how did Luke (Rebel faction) get the trooper armor on? Only Imperial faction can wear -- at least Han is a smuggler so he could switch... this is probably for SD Zannon, yeah....

I'm pretty sure this was back in Beta, and Luke was using a covert exploit wherein if you used to be Overt Rebel, and then cloned (thereby forcing covert status), you could equip the ST armor within seconds before the overt status took effect.Sepiv wrote:Oh, and a SWG dumb follow-on is how did Luke (Rebel faction) get the trooper armor on? So the real questions are:
A). How did Han fit a cloning station inside the Falcon, and
B). Why didn't the rest of the Stormtroopers notice Luke's overt status in the armor and open fire?

Okay, Episode 5 is playing as I type. Let's swap scenes from it or any others from Episode 4.
I have to admit that I have a few but I don't want to be greedy. My favorite is the Asteroid Field chase. More than a scene yes, but there's funny memories there.
This one my Mom took me to see. Up until that chase I could tell that my Mom, a no nonsense social worker, was indifferent . But then she started laughing out loud in the theater from the Princess Leia/Han Solo bickering and C-3PO's angst during the chase. I mean she was giggling it up! From that one scene on she was a fan.
The months following that I was getting all kinds of questions about Star Wars.
"Hey, I saw that one lizard guy in the store. 'Boosk' or something?"
"Bossk, Mom. Yeah, the bounty hunter."
That Christmas me and my brothers' Star Wars collections doubled! To this day whenever I watch the asteroid chase I hear my Mom cracking up.
Ok, who's got next?

My favorite SW quote is from episode V.
Vader: "Impressive.....Very Impressive"
Of course a close runner up is
Yoda: "Mine, Mine, Mine" as he thwats RT with his cane.
Oh another great quote
Luke: "I'm not afraid."
Yoda: "You will be....you will be."
Actually come to think of it half of the good quotes from SW are in Episode V.
