I also noticed at the book store that they actually have novels based on Star Wars Galaxies; has anyone read or even heard of these?
The Zahn books were the only SW books I considered worth reading. The books that followed his, by Kevin J. Andreson and others simply sucked ass.

Hey, the Courtship of Princess Leia ain't bad. It'll really change the experience of going to Dathomir for you.

Yeah, the Courtship of Princess Leia was probably the first SW Novel I ever read. In fact, I'm not even sure I read it, I may have gotten the book on tape from the library.
As everyone is saying, the Zahn novels are good. I was going through some old things in my parents' attic and I found Hier to the Empire. I read it again (totally forgot the story) and picked up Dark Force Rising (which I'm almost finished with). I love the books, but the only thing I hate is how the Empire never seems to win at any point. I mean they barely claim ANY victories over ANYTHING.
I've read Darksaber which comes along far later, and that was a good book. I liken myself to the Imperial Daliah (I think that was her name) because she honestly believed in the good of the Empire. Unlike Mara Jade, she had an allegience to the structure, rather than to the Emperor himself. I thought the book had good character development and at least the Empire got one major victory.
I have I, Jedi, but I want to try reading these books in order, so I have a while til I get to that one.

If I ever read a novel again, I will have to consider that one.

I kind of enjoyed the Bounty Hunter Wars, by Jeter, also. As mentioned before, they make Boba Fett look like the badass he should be.

I've read two of the Tales series as well, and I like how they incorporate certain movie events in them. It's like when you're playing one of the Half Life expansions and Gordon Freeman runs by and you're thinking "Hey, I did that!"
I also read a 3 story set with Lando Calrissian from before he lost the Falcon. I don't remember anything from it though. I also read another book from much later that's after.... uh... Han's depressed over something bad that happens, but can't remember the title. I tried to get into an Xwing or Rogue Squadron book, but just couldn't.

I'm actually reading two books at the same time, one at home and one on the train. I'm reading The Mandalorian Armor (first of the Bounty Hunter Triology) at home and Heir to the Empire (first of the Thrawn triology that I read a LONG time ago and needed to re-read).
I just hope they don't start blending together. I'm going to be sitting there for days wondering when Boba Fett is coming to kill Thrawn.

I have to say I agree. I read the Zahn novels in HS and I loved them. The others pretty much blow, I couldn't get through the first chapter on most of them, the only exception being "The Truce at Bakura" whcih I finished and somewhat enjoyed.

I saw on a website that Zahn plans to release a book about the Outbound Flight Project in November 2005. I am really looking forward to that one.

I have to reiterate that I felt Kevin J. Andersen did a great job with his books, and I enjoyed them most after Zahn who is the master. They take place just after Luke comes back to the light side of the force and considers himself a Jedi master and goes about setting up his Jedi academy. And if I'm not mistaken this is also where you meet Kyp who is his most talented pupil. Good stories on Kessel which is a great location for Star Wars. Once you finish Zahn I'd really recommend his stuff.
R.A. Salvatore a fav. author of mine as far as Drizzt Do'Urdun goes in the D&D world actually wrote a trilogy as well I believe however that is the series that Chewie dies in so I've had a grudge against him since and haven't read the series to see if it's any good. However he is a great writer.

Has anyone ever read Zhan's non-SW books? I'm curious if they're as good or maybe better.
