Are the new requirements for Jedi making it too easy?

Seret Sajet wrote:So this new Jedi system gets two thumbs up in my book.
From what I have read, this system is excellent. It is a great way to unlock and add some skills to any profession based on the force. The village and its quests have nothing to do with becoming a Jedi for those who are not interested and for those who are its just an extra step.

Force sensitive does not always equate to the Jedi path anymore, the initial step is for everyone. There will also be far fewer Jedi now. When most people finally realize how this system really works they should be thrilled.

Sounds like good stuff Seret.

Mechanically, it sounded good even before it went live and for all of the players that want the Force Sensitive boxes or the Jedi path, I'm happy for them.

Conceptually, though, I still have reservations because of the competition angle. There could be an analogy to SEA's and Force Sensitivity in that SEA's force characters to possess them also to stay competitve.

But, the difference that I see is that while the SEA's may change the content for your character to be competitive, the Force Sense quests make you change the content of your character to compete also.

From an RP perspective it diminishes the character a bit. Especially when FS is on such a wide scale. I don't blame players for getting all the content that they can in this game, but personally I feel like I'd be trading my character's non-Force "beingness" for a Flavor of the Month/couple of Months.

Basically, after a while, will Force Sensitivity be so common that it's not as unique as it should be?

Ehh, who knows? Maybe FS isn't meant to be unique. Maybe the Star Wars Universe mostly consisted of FS characters anyway and non-FS, non-Jedi are truly the minority.

I applaud SOE on their idea for a practical use of surplus character Skill Points, though. That counts for something.

I've been really trying to adjust my view concerning MMORPG game design. I guess it could be compared to Genetic Engineering in some respects. MMORPG's are "living, breathing" things (that make money  ) and all these little changes they make are like body cells that function with "extreme prejudice" towards survival of the "being" as a whole (?). Does that make sense?

Just wish there was less double-talking on SOE's side. But maybe that could be looked at as yet another "survival mechanism".

Heh, like I said, I'm trying.

That all depends on your perspective. While all of this is the persuit of Jedi characters for some players others may just want a skill boost and some fun quests. So how do you do it without cheapening your character and losing RP quality?

Simple, throw the Jedi shit out the window. Be creative and use a different angle. I've already thought something up for Seret. First, take this FS notion and throw it out. Who needs it? Why does my ability to be a better swordsmen have to rely on ancient magic.

Now, Here's how I RP it.

- You find an old man in the desert of say....Lok.... and he's half dead. You decide to bring him back to town and help him. In return he tells you he doesnt' have long to live, and because of your kindness, asks you to guard his last worldly possession. A crystal.

- A short while later 2 men calling themselves "the Sith Shadow" attack you for the crystal. You don't like getting attacked in your own town so you lay waste to them. After beating them you find their datapad and learn their buddies set up camp just a few 100 meters from town. They'll have to be dealt with to. They are a threat to your town.

- After defeating the camp full of these Sith people you loot their things. Hey, they won't need it. You find strange data about a village on Dathomir. A village in that god-forsaken place? All the data about the village peaks your curiosity. You go and check it out.

- You visit the town, talk to its people and learn of the attacks. These are good, honest people who need help. They ask for you help and in return offer to teach you their ways of crafting, medicine, combat etc. You figure its about time you did something honorable in this world.

So there ya go. No need to bring FS into this. Leave the jedi on the curb and find a better way to work it in. This angle works well for Seret. For years he was a mercenary, a gun-for-hire, not carring who he hurt or stepped on. Now that he has a home and a business he wants to leave all that in the past. Helping these villagers may mean he can get a piece of soul back.

Good tweaking, bud. If that works for you then definately run with it like a track & field star.

If I ever mess with it, I'll look to your post for inspiration.

As always if Seret needs some back-up, Keer's always loaded for bear. 8-)

Good idea. Lets throw a kegger in the village! Those folk's spirits are really down since this Sith Shadow group invaded them. Time to kick up the band and party downtown!

Crap. My bad. I read the sentence wrong. Somehow I combined KEER with BEAR and got BEER. Still throwing the kegger anyway. :D

Ahhh, ya' know me too well! I seriously could see Keer throwing a jam for a short time in that village. HaHaa!

Jumping around like the Joker in Batman. Party Man playing in the background!

I'll have to tuck that one away for a later time.

I don't trust Seret's keggers. They always end up with someone getting shot, and Abos wearing hot pink pants dancing on the table.

I love this Jedi system. I never would have been able to grind all those professions in my limited play time but now even if it takes me a year at least I can see some actual progress and get a bonus for the work I do put in. Not to mention I don't have to change my profession really untill I need to free up a few SP's. As Novall pointed out getting the required XP will be a huge under taking and I think that's what's really going to prevent a lot of people from getting to Jedi. Even if you're power hunting you'd need to kill about 2,000 Creatures at 3k weapon xp just to get 1 FS skill box. And if I'm not mistaken each box only counts for 1 skill point. meaning you'd have to kill aproximately 50,000 critters to reach Padawan. Now if I'm not mistaken didn't you have to get 6 branches or something ontop of the 24 or 25 skill point investment? I thought it would take at least 6 phases? Maybe I'm wrong but could someone correct me if I'm wrong. If you only need the 24 or 25 skill points then I only need to do 2 of the quests and then just get every box from those two branches. That's not too bad.

From what I have read unless you ahve the time or patience to grind 8 hours a day, it will be a year long stretch for most people to grind up to padawan.

Also any holo professions you may have ground up will help you out.

Last night I was able to train in Melee Speed under Combat Prowess all the way up to level IV. That gives me +12 speed to ALL melee professions I have. Now I am a Swordsman to be reckonned with. Woot!

This is because I must have ground at least one Holo profession. Now mind you I haven't mastered any on purpose. The only holocron I opened said Creature Handler and while I was one for a bit I never mastered it. On the other hand I have masteres Swordsman, Commando, Marksmen, Artisan and Scout. One of those must have been one of my holos.

Having done holo professions means two things for you:

-You get enough experience for one tree
-You unlock to skills to train in without having to wait for new quests to spawn in the cyclical timline of the town.

What does this mean?
You get the FS XP by trading in your current XP for any profession but you can only train once you do a specific quest for a specific person in the town. For example, I did the quest for the Captain of the guard in town and was able to train in Ranged Accuracy. If you do missions for Whip you can train in the Enhanced Reflexes tree. Get the idea? Having Holo professions done means you don't have to wait for different NPCs to spawn and do their missions.
