Isleh wrote:Death Sticks, cigarettes? Maybe pot is a better analogy. It could be borderline as far as spice goes. Legal in some places but mildly euphoric and strongly addictive.
I thought I had read somewhere, I think maybe in the Star Wars Attack of the Clones visual encyclopedia thing, that Death Sticks got their name because you used them, you had this great high with amazing trippy colors blah blah...then like seven days later you died. I could be wrong, but I *think* that's where I read it, and I dunno, even if I am wrong, anything called Death Sticks sounds a little harder than pot. IMO. (Says the clean yuppie girl)

Case and point:

In the older versions of ANH Luke is at the bar and tugs the bartender's shirt and says "I'll have one of those". In the new version on DVD he still tugs on the bartender's shirt but his question has been vocally removed. Hmmm.

That still pisses me off till this day. Give the kid a drink, c'mon! Did that surly bartender look like the kind of guy to card?

and from my favorite place:

Death Stick
this recreational drug was popular on Coruscant, during the years leading up to the Clone Wars. It was essentially a treated form of Ixetal cilona, which could be hardened into a cylinder or liquified and stored in a long vial. Both forms gave rise to the monicker 'death stick.' The liquid form was often consumed by mixing it with softdrinks, and was virtually undetectable in this form. The drug inside the multi-colored cylinders provided the user with a heightened sense of euphoria, but continued use of the drug stole years from a being's life. This continued usage led to an intense addiction, and most abusers reported needed a harder and harder dosage in order to simply exist. Because of its widespread use, the Bando Gora chose to introduce death sticks laden with neurotoxins into the Coruscant underworld, in an effort cause widespread chaos during the years following the Battle of Naboo. The shadowy depths of Coruscant are full of many unsavory characters. A slimy narcotics peddler who frequents some of the entertainment district's nightclubs and gambling bars, Elan Sleazebaggano looked to make a quick credit by selling his illicit wares. After attempting to sell death sticks to a Jedi Knight, Sleazebaggano reportedly went home that night and completely rethought his life.

NO CIGARETTES HERE.
Okay, first off, this isn't the movie. It's not cannon. You guys can quote books and databases etc. 'till you're blue in the face.

SHOW ME SOMEONE TAKING DRUGS IN THE MOVIES. SHOW ME.

HINT: SEE JABBA'S PALACE.

Second off, the next person who tries to make me look the fool while using a character's name of SLEAZEBAGgano as an example might want to consider how foolish that sounds.

Sounds a lot like Nicotine to me. Nicotine is the most powerful narcotic you can buy short of heroine. And I don't think anyone's going to argue against cigarettes shortening your life span.

Duuuuude! That's the dude selling death sticks! The movie!!!!!!!!1 It's IN THE MOVIE!!!!!! The background info just comes from a book! And if you wanna start pointing out dumb/obvious names, come on. They're everywhere in Star Wars, down to the main characters.

While he wasn't actually named in the movie, I'll give you credit as he's credited by name in the actor's credits.

Re-targeting the essence of Jabe's query, I'd like to check another angle.

Regardless of what's canon and what isn't...

Killing can be a game, but drug use can't?

We kill so much in this game that it's become less than background noise.
But drug use? No, that's too visceral!

Why is it that we can blow the brains out of a CG representation of a human being or other sentient...and then rob him    ...and not get all un-comfy about it?

But consume CG drugs and show the side effects and it's a crisis of conscience :???: ?

We all, Rebel, Imperial, and Neutral take missions to assassinate people game-style. For money!

It's raw hypocrisy to look down our noses at game-style drug use.

I just don't see the conflict here.

Well 3 pages in one day and I got X'an to post more than 3 times. I am on a roll with this thread. I think I am going to work on a drug related happening sometime this coming year. It will work nice with something that Dwilah has already started working on if we can mech them together it just might be the bomb...

Just because spice isn't illegal doesn't mean it isn't a drug. Tobacco is a leagal drug just like Advil. The Empire as wall as the Old and New Republics never bothered with making the substance illegal for several reasons one of which was that spice isn't that potant of a drug in the negative affects area. Secondly there are some planets who's entive GNP is based off the sale of spice.

In the Star Wars Universe in the Jedi Acadamy Trillogy Han goes back to Kessel to try to secure the spice for the Republic, I believe. Anyway the head of the Kessel mines was a spice addict. The effects wasn't like that of RL drugs there was beniffits to the spice like limited empathy but prolonged use cause the user to grow paranoid.

As for RP, I think its a good idea but you woulfd runn the risk of someone inmature taking it way to far and using it as an excuse. Personally if I could I would limit it to mature players only.
