Maybe they have a front with a really nasty looking character or crime boss and everyone thinks that that guy is the big man. But in reality its the soft spoken rich lady down the street who hands out candy to your children at halloween and just paid for renovations to your local park.
Thats a villian I like. A manipulator? Sure they are the master of it. Will they ever take a fall? Perhaps if someone doesn't take the fall and rats out the head guy. Then that guy turns on em. But by the time all that gets sorted out the real brains is sitting on a beach in Spain rebuilding the organization from a new base of operations.
I'm like high tech spy special operations bad girls. I think women make the best villians personally.
Ever see "Apt Pupil"?

I think of Cruel Intentions. Although not the exact type of chick I was thinking about but in the end, even after all the crap she did and how bad her reputation was... I sat back and said I'd still do her.
But that is the pig in me.
Anyway the apt pupil thing I don't know about. I'll look for it at the hadji mart today. Wow it is friday here.
And to Hashum, I am thinking this villian is the one that runs the Godfather. You know she had or has something on him and the ability to hurt him worse than he can hurt her.

Before launch I was in a PA called the Monastery of Aeon. It was a religious PA that taught against extremes, and it's members tried to attain perfect balance. Well, that's the short version.
Anyway, I played Zaren as a fanatic of Aeon, and I guess he was somewhat of a villian. Anyone outside the Monastery he considered to be a heretic, and only the members of the Monastery's council could hope to control him. I really had fun RP'ing Zaren this way.
He did things because he thought they were right, and he did whatever he could to protect those in the Monastery, no matter what outsiders thought.

A 'good' villan captivates our minds and begs us for a little more. This can be subtle or very over the top. Take many of the somewhat corny James Bond movies... "Do you expect me to talk?" asked James. "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die!" was the whimsical reply.
From doomsday weapons to simple revenge against another. The tools of a villan are not just in minions or the weapons at their disposal. It's the charisma of the character; their personality that drives us to ask... just what does this guy, or gal, have up their sleeve and are they 'really' willing to go 'that' far to get it? Even when we know the anser is yes... it scares us even more when we realize... Hey, our hero could easily become the villan. Could I too?
I 'like' this about playing a villan too. A good villan quite simply manipulates as best they can to each victim. Drawing on their fear to keep them in line. Sound familar? It should...

Ah yes, you're referring to the wife, of course. I believe they said it best in My Big Fat Greek Wedding. "Your father maybe the head, but I'm the neck, and I can make the head look whichever way I want." Or something like that anyway.

"Your average citizen reasons from A to B to C ( Action to immediate result to Consequences). Your average criminal can reason from A to B, but can't make it to C."
Your villain doesn't have to be insane. He can just be an intelligent criminal.
i.e.:
The Deathstar commander could reason from the destruction of Alderaan to the fear that would be created, but couldn't see beyond the immediate effect to the consequences. The consequences would have to include: Any personnel aboard the Deathstar who had family on Alderaan and the various ways they would seek revenge; the reasoning of militarily inclined persons of power on other worlds; and the increase in rebel recruiting and funding. Of course there would also be the consequences of increased efforts to destroy the Deathstar and the expenditure of Gross Emperial Product in both the defense of the existing facility and the need to build more Deathstars.
The Imps could conceivably build a facility that would be impervious to outside attacks, but they could never build one that would be 100% safe on the inside, unless it was entirely manned by droids. However, the Star Wars universe has droids that think for themselves, so you couldn't trust them, either.

Hello, this is my first time posting on these forums, which I have only recently discovered. Some of you may know me as Nyvveck Nurmaens, or Inquisitor Nurmaens. My favorite type of villian is one with religious fanaticism, whom thinks that every "evil" act he commits is for the "good of the cause". Of course, this type of villian would think he was the morally correct side. We have to remember that, throughout history, rarely do "villianous" men think themselves evil. My ideals on this, of course, rub off in character. If you have ever talked to Nyvveck, you know that he follows the Emperor with a religious zeal, beliving the Emperor to be a "beacon of hope in the galaxy". Just my two cents to add to this thought provoking conversation.

It's amazing all these different discriptions and ideas of what makes a good villian. All so different and varied and each one just as right as the next.
