Lord of the Flies is a kids' book?

Granted, I read it when I was 12, but I would rather I had waited until I was older. It gave me a jaundiced view of my contemporaries.

Kid reading doesn't get any grittier than Grimm's Fairy Tales, or the Greek myths...both of which my parents thot were just fine for us to read starting about the age of 8. Gudarian was considered fit reading for us as kids, too, tho we were advised to read it again when we got older.

Well I have been following the Harry Potter books sience the first one came out and have loved the movies. (except I hate the new dumbledor no one can replase the old one) Anyhow I read the sixth book and was both sad and disapointed that it ended to quickly. Anyhow I am chomping at the bit for the next and last book.

On a minor note Harry Potter is not just a kids book. I have seen many people above the age of 30 reading these. So don't sell the books short just because of the age it was shown at.

for anyone out there that isnt into actually reading the books

Ive done all 6 volumes on the audiobook read by Jim Dale..they are outstanding pieces of work. He's a fantastic character actor and really puts you into the story. Ive actually read a couple of them and have to say I prefer the audio versions..they are unabrdged so you dont have to worry aboutmissing anything soubtle..If you have the inclination I highly reccomend checking them out

FYI I think the movies do a very nice job..but for anyone who enjoys HP from watching the movies only I do reccomend either reading the books or the audiobooks..there are many plot points left out of the movies that do really enhance the stories..especially from the last movie

Jim Dale is absolutely amazing. I prefer his reading of the books to the movies in most parts, although I do enjoy the films as well. I am eagerly awaiting the next film as book #4 remains my favourite.

To Ekade: I recognize your approach to the books and belief that stuff for kids is better left to the kids. However, I put to you the evidence of all the peers on this thread as well as the mania around the globe by those much older than the suggested reading age. To get a true judgement, I would say perhaps skip the first two or three books and read later into the series (assuming you've seen the films). While the books are a fairly "easy" read, they are character driven, well-written and genuinely interesting.
