Ok, I, also, agree with ZANNON's point about disclaimer = cyber-hungry 12 year olds.

I disagree that everything has been kept within the bounds of PG-13.

....AND...I think the matter should be settled by TTF as a whole, because Alonzo's event has run freely since he disappeared. Steff has probably made it to 4 Roba Nites since I first met (s)him, and usually only for a half hour.

TTF does a good job of RPing the weapons ban in the Roba...Jerrel, do you want to bring this up with your guild? I'm sure the Kreetles are as close to GMing the Roba as TTF is, currently.

My final thought: Someone needs to run the show.

Somewhere way back in this thread it was mentioned that, in theory, killing 100's of people is okay because there is no real person behind it. Sensuality between 2 players crosses the line because there are real people involved.

What about PvP? Think about the implications of the death-blow in PvP. Think about the implications of perma-death for Jedi and the fact the some people are screaming to bring it back.

• Emoting to another player something passionate is wrong.
  
  Simulating burning another player alive with a flamethrower while throwing biological weapons at them is okay.
  
  Emoting something sexual is wrong
  
  Simulating letting another player suffer ( letting a player incap 3 times with DOT flames, poisen, etc... ) is okay.

Simply put, it's a double standard.

It's crying foul when the media makes the claim video game violance caused some tragic deaths stating that it's the individual's and the parents of that individual that are responsible. Then flopping 180 when it involves sex.

If violence is too rough or persistent, the film goes into the R (restricted) rating.

Since when does killing things, other players, for hours on end not count as persistent or violent?

Isy, I'm pretty sure everyone here knows that argument well. I'm thinking everyone's with you on this...except that 0.0001%. Changing views is tough, when it's something they're adamant about. For anyone that knows me, it's pretty well known that I'm anti-PVP...I'd much rather see two players spooning on stage, than one killing another, then dancing on his corpse.

I think the more attention we give to this aspect of the event, the more we blow it out of proportion.

I think maybe we should add a more upscale event, one where we might see more poloticians, beaurocracy, and businessmen(women). Things like this can still have entertainment, provide an excuse for formalities, and get a little drink on. Consider it like a "black tie" Roba... only people are trying to keep an image that they are respectable...
This may be a good entry event, since it wouldn't be a "night club". I personally would like to see something like this anyway. We could advertise this event as our introductory(??) event.
Of course organized crime has to be upscale sometimes too...

Upscale people do have all that status symbol crap too... like slaves... like AV21's... and jetpacks...

Personally, I have never seen anything at the Roba that has bothered me in the slightest...then again, I have issues keeping up with spatial at the Roba so I might not be the best judge. And too, as someone who is normally defined by their sexuality, I have no problems with anyone expressing it anyway they see fit.

I am of the mindset that, if you don't like what is going on, then don't hang around. I don't see the need to change what we do to cater to the 0.0001% of folks that don't like what goes on. If you don't like our style of RP, then I'm sorry but this group isn't for you...but here are some helpful brochures about other groups out there. *shrugs*

I think its safe to say this topic has been beaten into the ground. There really isn't anything left to say. I will give the thread 24 hours for anyone who wishes to throw in final thoughts and opinions and then lock it in a effort to move on.

I hope no one takes offense to this or sees it as an effort to stifle discussion. In truth this thread will end up going farther and farther south and be less and less constructive. There are much more positive topics yet to be made out there that deserves everyone's time and energy a lot more.

We will continue to post this event on SWGTales, even though we have debated on discontinuing it, considering the event has no real representation from an GM here. It would seem that ignoring the event would set an even worse precedent as a community.

Again, final thoughts are welcome. Complaints and otherwise should be directed to the authorities in Dohrian. On a side note, if the folks at Dohrian wish to nominate someone to represent them here, I am more than open to that as well.

I understand the perspective Zannon but the key word is assume. I could also be sitting there glancing over to the TV and the weather channel while emoting something sexual. They have as much right to assume that as I have the right to assume that the player killing Kusaks is thinking of killing their neighbor's dog that barks to much.

There is a video ( on collegehumor.com I think ) of a kid freaking out and slamming around his keyboard and the table his computer sits on because he lost in PvP. Am I right to assume that based on an actual video of violent behavior related to PvP that all people who PvP are prone to such violent outbursts?

You, I, and I hope everyone who reads this knows that assumption is wrong. The answer to our problem is not to suddenly curtail the activity reinforcing the assumption that they are right and now that we were caught we have to run and hide.

The case of the 14 year old is closer to home with me than you think. I allow my 4 year old daugter to play WoW because she can't read yet. She enjoys running around smacking thistle boars.

What happens when she can read? What happens when she is old enough to understand things of a sexual nature?

Truth be told.. it is MY job as a parent to protect her from this, no one else's. Lucky for her, I know what an MMO is.. a giant unmoderated chatroom. All sorts of jerks and perverts abound, as well as some good people. An MMO is just like any other unmoderated chatroom on the internet. Proceed with caution.


I propose we do nothing and just enjoy our play time. I think we are all sensitive and sensible enough to enjoy ourselves in a way that is not offensive to most people.

I really don't want you guys to put TTF in the position of having to police roleplay or do age checks. 1) that is a crappy and impossible job, 2) it will cause more problems than it solves.

They host the event, but it is not their job to police roleplay. That job belongs to the individual roleplayer. To think otherwise is to incorrectly place the burden of responsibility on someone else's shoulders.

Might I make another suggestion here? How about we find out from whoever owns the Roba as of now if it's ok with them if we keep doing this? If it is kind of an unspoken thing that just carried on after the original person started it... just ask whoever owns the place if it's ok if we keep having it.

I'd say, moderators, that's your job to check on and let us know what you find out. Until then, just keep going and carry on as normal. Until a CSR busts in on us... I don't think theres a real problem. I've read most of the chats before I leave on a Friday night and I don't think there is anything a CSR wouldn't just tell someone : "Did you use your filter and addignore?" to.

What I am hoping to avoid is an overreaction by TTF that causes a shutdown or cancellation of the oldest and longest running RP event on Gorath.

If the information is presented to them in an alarmist way, we run that risk.

I don't know what is being comminicated to them, so I feel powerless about the whole thing right now. All I know is that some people are communicating something to some members of TTF. Who knows what their reaction will be?

I don't want them to freak out and lock the doors over nothing.
