Fits right in with Cannon, Luke knew Vader was on the Super Star Destroyer and knew when Vader landed on Endor. I don't think we're gonig for God Mode here or anything.
A one-planet range is plausible based on canon. However, lets's be careful not to make any I-WIN buttons.
There are hundreds of planets in SW, and only about 10 in our game. So we could just have a jedi hop to every planet to find anyone at anytime. That is too god-mode for my tastes.
Just use good judgement.
Yes I understand you point, but hopefully those of us here are not childish enough to do such a thing.
I mean you can run into this problem with anything. And I had mentioned earlier that it should have a fail rate and use a system similar to the bio-sig macro that was set up as it's not 100% effective.

I believe Yala has the best method for this and plan on training all the Jedi in -ONE- to use the same method for consistency.
And that is to use it in the form of a question allowing the probee to determine it's effect such as.
/tell Ekade <probes your mind searching for the truth>
This would allow you to tell me what if anything is found
/tell Hashum <You sense that she is indeed telling you the truth>
/tell Hashum <You are unable to gain a sense of her true motivation>
Again I think this serves both parties well and allows for more options in RP. And I think by taking a road that doesn't imply you're using God Mode the probee is more willing to work with you and it just works much better.
In a way.. all this stuff should work on the same system.
Any time you are dealing with giving away information, be it your location or your thoughts, it has to be consensual. As long as both parties agree up front, there should be no issues.

I would prefer using the macro for accountability in tracking so that you could at least maintain an element of actual surprise. But other then that I agree.
Setting up the macro takes communication up front but at least leaves the actual confrontation a surprise.

And Vader couldn't sense where his own son was until he was in a space station orbiting that very planet. And that could even be linked more to destiny than anything else.

Right but he was also sure that he was on Hoth as soon as he saw the image. So sometimes you have it, sometimes you don't.

Well, if a Jedi "senses me" and sends me a tell asking me where I am I will ignore it every time. I will not give them an ability that should be reserved for bounty hunters. Jedi can swing a lightsaber and do some parlor tricks but I am not going to let them become a master of every class in the game. Let the BH's have a purpose. Hell, if you are a Jedi hire a BH to find someone. Why do you have to be able to do everything without any help? You aren't gods.

To me that suggests that more contact a Jedi has, the more "in-tune" they get with someone... and thus have an easier time of feeling their presence.
Episode IV: Vader did not even know it was luke he was shooting at. "The force is strong with this one."
By Episode VI, they had met and interacted closely. Thus they gained a feel for eachother's "footprint" in the force, if you will.

I agree, just as long as both agree to use it.
I think the macro idea is amazingly cool and can add to the realism.

Ah so should every profession but Jedi be able to locate someone? I mean BH's could use a Bio-Sig or tracking Droid, Ranger's obviously can just "track" you. Smuggler's can use their under ground connections to find you. All of which are acceptable?
And what about a Jedi that used to be a BH? And we're not trying to make an I-WIN button here, it's not like we're saying ok I can just start out sensing you anywhere I want go anywhere I want and sense you, I don't need to talk to anyone because I can sense them.
This is more of we've done our homework we've tracked you down, to a fairly specific region, and assuming that we know your character could then get a general feel for your location, which according to the macro would give us a WP once every 9 minutes is it or something like that?

The problem here is that not every Bounty Hunter actually has skill points in bounty hunter. Should we have people post their templates and tracking droid skill mods to determine their ability to tracking someone?

No, I don't think anyone who doesn't have a job locating people should be using this. What the hell is so wrong with using people who have made their characters a specific class. Maybe that would help with immersion a bit more if you actually had to ask for help.
I mean by your argument anyone on the server could track someone. There are very few people who have never played a BH, Smuggler, or a ranger. Hell E-bo has been all three. But when I am looking for someone I try to track them down through other people. I don't just pull out the tracking droids I have collecting dust in the closet.

i think e-bo is just worried the jedi god-mode is gonna kick in
Jedi: "You will come with us"
Mark: "but i don't want to, you'll have to kill me"
Jedi waves hand, "You want to come with us"
Mark: ....this sucks

Ranger's tracking is the same as BH. They use Bio-sigs.-hashum, but A Smuggler uses connection's...talks to people ask's questions same as I do. I couldnt track Ekade the other night till I talk with fedaykin andhe gave me the Cords. OMG IM A MBH AND I DIDNT USE FINDFRIEND THAT TIME!! I must be a Haxor

Yup, Fed sent me a tell and I put him and you on my friends list so you could track me.
I have to resort to informants to find people, because Ekade does not really have tracking skills. I was a MBH at one time, but that was hologrinding so we'll ignore that.

actually no a ranger doesnt use bio sigs. They track like a tracker from the 1800's they arent modern.
A ranger is basicly the redneck of the swg world. They can skin a rancor, they can run a trot line , and a ranger will surivive , a ranger will suuuuuurviiiiiive.
