Oh but I am a cheerleader because my goals are the same.

My methods are just different.
So be it, cheerleader.

Hey now.. there is nothing wrong with cheerleading.

There was once a site whose purpose was to provide a place for people to get together and talk about RP and their favorite MMO. Early on there was some cheerleading taking place to get people to come here. Throughout it's history there was some cheerleading that went on to get people excited about events, and doing things together.

Enthusiasm can be contagious. :D

All I can say is I could have taken the NGE much better if they'd just left the templates and combat the same. Sure I miss some of the old professions they ditched, and wish they'd left even 12 of them instead of just 9.

It's the template building I miss the most, it's being a cookie cutter template no matter what. It's the specials, and most of all it's the control I felt I had in battle before that I feel is missing now.

Before in combat I might do 1000 damage to a CL 80 MOB, and to a CL 80 Elite maybe I'd do 500 damage. But I really liked the targeting system, and that system seems to be used in most MMO's I've seen. WoW seemed to have a similar point and click but then you stay on the same target. SRO is point and click but again you lock on the target.

Now at CL 85 if I attack a CL 80 MOB I may still do 1000 damage but to a CL 80 elite MOB I can end up doing only 50-60 damage, that's like a 95% damage reduction, it's crazy. Then MOB's can also stand ontop of each other so I can't target one and have to try to kill both at the same time instead of being able to strategically take one out to reduce the incoming damage and then focus on the other.

Anyway I could easily have stomached everything else, including the chat changes if they'd only left templates and targetting the same.

I tried WoW as well, and found most of the same problems Isleh "generalized" about. Had I not given it time I would have just tossed the game aside as crap and went on my marry way. Instead I gave it time, tried to adjust the controls where I liked it and gave it a chance. What was missing? All my friends, the fun I was used to having. So what did I do? Went back and played the game I have been over the passed few years.

When people are stated that someone generalized about their WoW experience I just have to laugh. Most here are generalizing about the changes in the NGE. You can still rp, you can still talk with freinds, they are making changes to make things better and easier. If this game was sooooo important and such a big part of your life, then why run away. Why not stay and make it better? Thats what I am doin, until it is better, or until the server is shut down.

Calling people cheerleaders cuz they want to play the game they enjoy and want their friends to come back and give it a chance is just narrowminded.

People don't seem to understand what I am talking about. There are instances where cheer is inserted instead of saying "wow that sucks man, I am sorry you feel that way."

Example:

"I lost 80 million worth of attachments I spent months saving for."

"Hahaaaa!! I am so happy because now I don't need to worry about attachments anymore!!! YAY FOR NGE!"

Maybe an exaggeration, but thats what I am getting out of a good number of posts recently.

Debatable, but I can agree with most of your points. There's nothing wrong with playing the game you enjoy and there's nothing wrong with wanting your old pals to come back either (I do), but they left because they didn't like the game you still enjoy so spewing waves of NGE praise at them, while not necessarily narrowminded, is still insensitive. :)

Everybody lost something from the changes, some just chose not to focus on it, and move on. Your losses aren't any less or more important tan anyone elses. Someone trying to focus on the positive and no worse than someone focusing on the negative. Unless I missed some forum guidelines somewhere stating differently.

I am sorry it is seen as insensitive, I thought this was a SWG site, and that talking about the good points of the game was something that might be done here.

Talking about the good points of the game (whether real or perceived) is done here and is, I think is safe to say, encouraged even.

If you enjoy the new system then that's fantastic. No one is going to convince you that it sucks.

Likewise, no one is going to convince someone who hates it that it is teh pwn.

We all will have to deal with the cheerleaders as much as the naysayers - like republicans and democrats, they both get annoying at times, but you tolerate them because you have to lol.

And as everyone is so willing to point out, it's not the same game. There is a reason why it's called the New Game Experience.

I could go into detail. I could go into extensive detail and explain valid point after valid point if that was the goal of my argument. My point, like other have already pointed out, is to illustrate that I could. I don't actually plan on wasting the time doing so.

In fact I could make the same argument you just made about SWG chat concerning my WoW talents and the time I spent picking the ones that had fit my playstyle.
You miss the delicate fact that it is still the SAME game by name, subscription and all other important aspects. When the CU hit Test Center, it had modless as the default, but it still allowed for the classic controls.

Also, there is no reason that a non-modless option could be offered. In fact, if I read the boards correctly, it was an option for 2-3 days after the NGE until it was removed in one of the hotfixes. It doesn't affect the gameplay for those that don't used WASD to move.

Aside from the controls, my point is that it is not a new game, they are still calling it Star Wars Galaxies last I heard. Comparing your new experience in another game to sweeping changes within the same game does not hold any merit. I could understand combat changes, for we had those already. However, it was within the same realm, and they made the effort to cater to existing customers when they did it. Regardless, the NGE is here to stay, for however long that may be, so it does not matter. I just dislike the generalizations of those of us with our gripes and when a bad argument hit me in the face, I needed to jump in.

FYI It's New Gaming Enhancements, which I consider to be pretty different than New Game.
So, call it SWG2, clear out the database and let the old playerbase keep absolutely nothing?

If it looks and plays like a new game, it must be a new game. If you want to quibble over the point that SOE didn't call it SWG2, that fine.

I lost over 3 million credits in 3 weapons.

A Krayt FWG5, A Krayt Plasma Flame Thrower, A Photon Rifle.

All of them had ADKs. What were thoes worth? 10 million each?

30+ million credits gone?

It's like watching a pile of 1000 dollar bills burn.

A pile of Monopoly Money burn.

There is no investment in monopoly money - no time to get it, you could take it all after opening the box if you chose to so that really isn't a good example.

I can feel your pain but there are those of us that last over 100 million credits that way. I had invested all of my money into pearls and attachments that are now worthless. So not only is the two years of work I put into getting a Jedi gone, and everything else I had done to make my character what I wanted is now also worthless.

And to boot it all off I'm now in a financial situation where I can no longer afford to change my character's equipment to make the necessary adjustments to be as competitive as I like to be because they simply decided to change the rules with no restitution.

3 Flawless Pearls 45 million credits
3 Premium Pearls 24 million credits
Speed/Accuracy CA's 70 million credits
LS Experimentation suit 40 million credits
3 ADK's 30 million credits

So just in that which is basically what I had on not mention other good/quality/select pearls and resources for lightsaber's which required Resource deeds I lost 179 million credits. Hashum now has about 1 million credits in his bank account, I saved and saved to make my character exactly the way I wanted, I worked for 2+ years, and with barely two weeks notice SOE made it all obsolete.

So yes I have a problem with them giving me maybe 2 weeks notice that this was all going to be lost. So I'm sorry but for a gamer like me that's a huge amount of heart, soul, and time that I've lost. It's like breaking up with a girlfriend, every time that happens part of your heart brakes and you never fully recover.

really though, I mean honestly, somethng like this was bound to happen, I mean a new version. If the would have released SWG2 you would have lost even more starting over from a new game. I lost alot of good weapons when the CU hit. It sucked but I adjusted and moved on. Same as now. I lost alot with the NGE, but I am adjusting and moving on. The thing that I value most in this MMO is the friends I have made, its easy to replace my old stuff with new stuff. If you re feeling that attached to you belongings in the game then you need to consider what will happen when the game is not supported anymore, or a SWG2 does come around....
