My point, just to reiterate for everyone here since the newcomers to the argument aren't reading the entire thread, is that there is NO reference in any of the movies to people taking spice, or at the very least a spice that is craftable in this game. Death sticks? Questionable, and not clear cut based on film cannon. Jabba's hooka? The burden of proof lies on those who would like to prove it was spice. Remember, only the films count as cannon.

I'm offically coming unhinged because everyone's trying to have an endaround run on my argument on film cannon. I've got Lucas on my side. You've got unofficial expanded universe on yours. I'm officially bowing out of this debate now, so you can continue to try and prove that the act of doing drugs is somehow Star Wars cannon.

X'an I hate to see people think every one is ganging up on them in these forum cause more often than not they are not. What I think we have here is the question of what is CANNON. There are people like myself who feel that cannon includes NOT only the movie but the books as well. Others think that cannon includes the comics too. And people like X'an here believe the only cannon that there is lie within 6 movies, end of story. Either way the data base at www.starwars.com the offical Star Wars sight, you can look up anything mention in the book, comics, and even the movies. That being said X'an alot of us are commin from at the very least the position that the books are cannon as well. I dont know if you've read any of them but honestly they are a hundred times better than the trip that the sell out Lucas has come up with.

I agree, the hole lack of continuity is amazingly anoying and sad to me. wookiee Imps! Come on, the Emporer use them as slave labor to build the first Death Star, but wait os that cannon?...accually I dont think it's metion any where in the movies that non-humans couldn't join the Empire, I may bee wrong. I do recall a Imperial officer givin Chewie a conteptuois look but that could have been just one guys opinion of Wookies cause they never specificly expressed that his attidude was the standard in the Empire.

Any way, unfortunalty continuity IS lacking and unfortuatly we have to deal with it. However to say my definition of cannon is the only right deffinition of cannon is to be dismissive other other people opinion. I know X'an that that not your intention BUT one can come off as being so. Unfortunatly forums and chat cannot convae one inflections when one types. I have a sarcastic sence of hummor and it NEVER works out when I type it down.

And yet you continue to ignore the fact that Lucas, you know, the guy who created Star Wars, and paid for the site you reference above, says that nothing is canon except the films, which would mean the excellent site, www.starwars.com, the one that Lucas paid for, and owns, is not canon, as it is not one of the six films.

Feel free to continue to ignore the guy who created what you're attempting to define now (canon) for future reference, since you don't seem inclined to now.

Again, to reiterate, I'm not saying that you HAVE to ignore drug use, but could you at least be honest with yourselves and admit that you're using expanded universe canon, and not official canon to define what it is you're doing?

I said DOING drugs isn't cannon. That's simply my opinion, I'm not arguing for Jabe to not have it as a central theme to his event. Jabe asked for opinions, and my opinion is that I wouldn't want it.

I've never said that spice isn't in the movies. DOING spice? Not in the movies, and that's been my point this entire time.

I'm not confusing the matter. Just establishing from where you are coming from and laying the ground work for my point.

Just because the main, larger than life characters don't do spice. It does not mean that doing spice isn't cannon. It simply means that the characters who are portrayed are not the types of people who use spice and the use of spice is moved into the background. But is still portrayed in the movies and in such a way that parallels drugs today.

Lucas didn't make that statment til after the books, movies, and comics began to contridict themselves. Its the classic cop-out, if things get so big and your not payin attention then these contridictions happen the you say well all those contriditions accually happen in alternat Universes there for there is no contridiction in my product. Every comic book company has done it so why not Lucas (ie DC comics Crissis on Infanat Earths). If stated it before that I feel Lucas is a sell out. I do agree that the person who created some thing on this scall is the one to say what is and is not "cannon" but I will not ignore an attempt to cover one's ass when things get out of hand. If Lucas was to come out and say "Hey sorry but I'm not editing any thing that my name or my creations name is on and things happen take what you like and ommit what you dont." If he where to have said ANYTHING like that I would have a great deal of respect for the man but he went for the cop-out.

Cause he want to make more money. Nothin wrong with that but come on how many of you out there bought the special edition, the remastered special edition, and the DVD collection. He didn't make them out of pure love for his creation he just slaped computer grafics in some places and resold it cause he knew some die hard fans out there would eat it up. Bet you up to 5 years after ROTS comes out there will be a special edition, a remaster special edition, a DVD collection of the prequells then on the 50th aniversery of Star Wars there will be the Super Deluex DVD Remaster Final Collection (note: a sarcastic voice should acopany that last line).

So on and so forth. There is alot of Star Wars backdrop storyline that never went into the movies. At least not the ones I saw.

It just seems narrow minded to say that we should RP EXACTLEY what's in the movies.

When you have multiple interpitations of a selected fiction Cannon is the bace fiction for all the other interpitations. The side argument that has arissen from this thread is what that base fiction is. Some like my self consider the Books part of the cannon since the books are the first to establish the time line of the Star Wars Universe and all other writen matterial has tried to follow this time line. Other's like X'an feel that matterial writen only by the Star Wars creator is cannon. Does that help any Rebecca?
