I will go where the people I hang around with go. If the people I like stay, I'll stay. If the people that I like go, I'll go with them.

However, I am still not making any judgement on whether this is a change for the better or for the worst until I can actually play it in action.

It's been in the works for over a year now. In fact, the expansions could probably be called smokescreens for the launch of the real game. It'll shake things up.

RE: Crafters going away in the FAQ.
Absolutely not, especially considering Galaxies has one of the deepest and most engaging crafting systems of any game that offers one. We are still supporting crafting, but as a profession unto itself included in the nine iconic professions (Trader). What is really fantastic about crafting now is that we are allowing for skill branching within the crafting profession so that crafters can specialize in certain skills and thus help maintain the diverse Galaxies economy.
Sounds like WoW talants...

And so much cheeky verbage too.

By gosh golly this is superdillio neato fantastic. I can't wait to try it! The <looks back to read> "most.. engaging.. crafting.. systems" sounds absolutly keen!

Can anyone become a Jedi?

Yes, anyone can follow the path of the Jedi but like all professions mastery will require time and experience. The new Jedi profession will be equal in combat effectiveness with the other professions. It will still however deliver on the promise of the Star Wars Jedi mystique and will allow players to live as Jedi in the world of Star Wars Galaxies
man, are the 1337 jedi gonna be pissy...

What I want to know is.. exactly how do they intend to "deliver on the promise of the Star Wars Jedi mystique and will allow players to live as Jedi in the world of Star Wars Galaxies"

LOL.. and did you notice the quote said "still"...

Since when did Jedi have any mystique in this game?

OK, after reading Tigg's post about the changes, I don't like them. It is the end of a good deal of the RP-ability in SWG. With only 9 professions, there really isn't much variety and it appears that there will be even less incentive to interact with anyone. Plus, no more hybrid professions, and that just seems silly to me.

/shrug

I guess we'll see, but I'm losing hope.

I'm with Zannon...this kind of big change really scares me now that I'm catching up and seeing what's going on. While I like the point and shoot in space, I'm really worried about how this will make everyone much more alike, probably every other person will be a Jedi, trying to role play while doing point-and-shoot isn't going to happen, somehow we'll have to be "converted" over to a brand new server so I'm worried we won't really keep our houses and possessions (maybe "cash" them out only) and unless you're carrying a lightsaber there might be no point to being a melee fighter now (character concept? what's that for? just blast 'em!).

It is kind of exciting I admit because it could be something completely different and maybe it could be fun in its own way...I guess we can only hope because I think they'll go through with it regardless negative feedback: they worked on it for over a year in secret and they clearly want "twitch" players. So I'll just try to hold judgment too...nervously...thinking about how starships will sometimes space will just shift now and then so you're no longer tailing your target. It would be nice if it could come out as SWG2 so you could try it and convert over if you really wanted to...or stay back "old school" if you thought it sucked. But they won't have the support team for that I'm sure.

I have mixed reactions about this announcement. On one hand, I agree wth Zannon that RP is going to suffer due to the twitch nature of the gamplay;however I am excited to be able to play Jedi since I've wanted to become one since I bought this game(it was the reason I bought it, actually). I think alot of the elitists will drop out of the game because they'll no longer be able to "own". I'm fine with that.

Let's look at it this way, SOE/Lucasarts has already thrown continuity out the window anyway. If they are going to make Jedi a starting profession it's excellent that they are taking away FORCED PVP. I can't stress that enough. I hate forced pvp and although it fit with the Star Wars cannon in hunting down Jedi, in reality for those that reached Jedi it hardly seemed fair to be forced to PVP. Let's face it why did you buy the game?

On the negative side, those Jedi who have invested massive amounts of time into the grind are totally getting shafted. Also, I am deeply disappointed that I'm losing Teras Kasi as it was such an important part of my characters development especially from a roleplaying standpoint. I gave up hope long again of really enjoying combat. I'm here for the roleplaying enviroment. If the roleplay doesn't really exist anymore, what point is there to playing? Sure, you can play Jedi as a starting profession and intereact with other people(Jedi)...how do a bunch of Jedi together roleplay?

I guess I have to wait and see how this plays out...anyone know when this is hitting live?
