Star Wars: Battlefront - First Impressions

I have to say this game is everything I wanted it to be. An online FPS with the star wars look, sound and feeling.
First lets talk about Gameplay. This seemed excellent to me. Load times aren't a bore, lag wasn't a big issue and the controls are realitively the same as what I'm use to. I have to admit some controls really require you to re-map them to your own liking. Every level was fun and exciting.
Now the exciting parts. The "Hero" Option turned on for a server is a must for me from here on out. There is nothing like fighting alongside or even again Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Mace Windu and Count Dokku. Even when I controlled a super battle droid and Mace cleved me in half, I was actually thrilled. There's also the other folks who make appearences, like fighting on Tat and having a spawn of Tusken Raiders attack everyone in sight only to have a few get snatched and eaten by the saarlac.
The vehicles are very interested, and very unique. From the huge Geonosian monster machines from Epsiode II to driving a Skiff on Tat. Really well done.
The levels are quite well done. The jungles of Yavin give you that Vietnam feel while the cities of Naboo really make for some interesting battles. I wish there was a bit more interactivy but not enough for me to complain.
But now lets talk about the bad parts. For one, the multiplayer server select screen needs a lot of work. There is a sort function but NO search function. You also can refine you list, like say you only want servers running the GCW and have the Hero option turned on. They really should of took notes from games like Battlefield Vitenam and Unreal. Another bad point is a lot of client and server stability. Crashing to desktop in the heat of battle never makes anyone happy.
Well thats all the thoughts I can muster for now. You can be sure you'll find me an the others of the Mad Monkey Brigade playing this game a few nights a week. Join us if you can.
