Star Wars: Battlefront - First Impressions
Not to worry. Battlefront has had almost no impact on my SWG time. So far I have just thrown in a few single player battles here and there. They don't take very long, 10-15 min typically.Hashum wrote:/Jedi Mind Trick

We were teaching my daughter how to play. She is 4. Her favorite thing to do is run into the water and drown herself.
Do you wanna hear something sick? We were elated when she actually killed something. "Honey, our daughter got her first kill!!" *hugs*

Battlefront has definately eaten into my game time. But that was to be expected.

Legends
Are the physics floaty (like an Unreal), or more gravitated (like a Battlefield, or Medal of Honor) ?? I must know before I throw my FPS godliness into the fray.

Hey now.. Battlefield was cool, Of course I played the game for a year with a bunch of friends, and only really played in groups, I guess that made it more cool...ArifoObi wrote:almost identical to Battlefield except its cool.

Battlefront is cool. I really want to play some LAN with the guys, but I will say one thing.
THE REPUBLIC SUCKS.
Play against any human counterpart using the Republic and you are dead-bantha-poodoo. Seriously, the CIS kills the Republic in any level. If you even attempt to take down a droidika, its lights out. The only levels I find fun are the Empire vs. Rebel levels because of this. Good God are those droidikas good!

Love the game, but there's a lot I didn't like. Endor wasn't massive enough for my taste. And I don't care how ungodly it would make the Empire, I want access to ALL the AT-ATs on Hoth, not just 2. :P
On another note, I hate the whole capture the spawn point system. To me, it just seems like a complicated version of capture the flag. I prefer the games like RTCWET where yea, it's advantages to take hold of a point, but victory isn't determined by who controls all the points. I guess I just prefer the more objective based combat of the wolfenstein games than the point of control ones. At least the ticker doesn't go down for having hold of it like it did in BF. God that pissed me off.
The vehicles were great, but I have my complaints there too. Such as you still can't use the concusion grenade launcher in the at-st. You could in the demo for the x-box that came with the trilogy, but apparently they took it out of the final product. Same for alt firing modes on some of the weapons.
And as usual, the AI on my side seems to be lacking whenever I play. That, or I just demand too much from my troops. (I don't care if we only have 20 guys left, you don't freaking bail out of the speeder.) The AI on the enemy was actually challenging for me at times. I was impressed to actually be sniped/catch sniping scouts hiding behind cover and such.
One thing I thought rather odd, was that the missile launchers seem to lack the traditional area of effect that I'm used to in all other games with em. Annoying, but I just got in the habbit of aiming them at the rebels faces instead.
Main thing that pissed me off, was luke was deflecting my MISSILES with his lightsaber. I've no qualms about him deflecting blaster shots with it, but at least do a force effect or something other than the saber to deflect incoming projectiles like that. At least I managed to bounce him around with thermal detanators(which like all other games, aren't near as powerful as they're supposed to be).
All in all, I like the game. Haven't done any online play yet. Going to have to now that my cable isn't shot.

You dont take out a droideka with a clone trooper. And they are only good when the shield is on. You can actually kill one in the time it takes them to transform from rolling mode to fighting mode.
Try different approaches to taking out the droidekas.. also try different things on every map. There is a lot of finesse to this game that I am starting to appreciate.
Oh.. speaking of droideka's.. my daughters latest favorite thing to to is be the droikeka and live in a "house" (specifically one of the buildings on the Rhen Var map) and roll up the stairs to go to sleep. Then she becomes a robot and waits for my to press the flower on her shirt to activate her.
