I assume there's another Bothan around here that might take exception to a non-Bothuwiee native agreeing to that statement.

I have no idea what happens if I am grouped with 3 people.. who gets "sucked up"?
I just scoured the Game Guidebook, but it reveals nothing on either the multiperson ship or character group placement questions.
Something new happened last night. I was grouped with 1 rebel pilot and 3 civillian pilots. I was the first person to hit launch with my Y-wing and I sucked up one of the civillian pilots as my gunner. She was the group leader, so maybe it just selects the first available person in the group list.

Could be. I was grouped with several people last night but only one of them had a 2 person ship (Oeree in his Y-Wing). I didn't launch right away and I got sucked into his gunner seat. This sounds like a real unsure method to launching as a gunner but it sounds like if you have someone with a 2-seater in your group and you want to be the gunner just let them launch and wait a bit until it loads you in.

The question is what if 2 or more people in the group wait to launch after the 2-seater pilot launches. Which one gets put in the gunner seat then?

I am guessing it just goes down the group list top to bottom and "sucks in" the next available.

So you'd want to invite people to your group in the "proper order".

There she is.. I was wondering if you were in the pound or something.

BTW - SWEET.. you had a civilian gunning in your Y-Wing? That gives me hope that I may yet get to run a turret before arthritis kicks in on my way to Master Pilot. :)

I heard you can group with neut and reb to do faction missions. Haven't seen it for sure. You can group while in space though. I meet a guldmate above Endor last night and he did the usual /invite name and i accepted. Only downside to that was I couldn't see the other person in the group, only him, yet I was still getting their chatter through group chat.

Yep, neutrals can accompany you on faction missions as long as you all are grouped. That's how the MERCS are making their money.

Here is one thing I do not like about the "Gunner"..

There is an XP penalty for having a gunner.. basically you and the gunnner split the XP. This is strange because everyone who hits a ship while flying solo gets full xp for the kill.

Aside from being "fun".. there seems to be little benefit to having a gunner in a Y-Wing... unless of course you WANT to advance half as fast in a slow ship. :D

I don't see it being all that unfair. Having a gunner give you two sets of eyes able to attack targets in two directions, especially those on your tail. A good pilot with a good tail gunner is a force to be reconned with.

Sure two pilots in two different ships get the full XP a piece but a pilot and gunner is more coordinated. Two ships can go their own way.

Theoretically, yes..

Realistically, no..

The gunner can only hit something if the relative difference in motion is minimal between the Y-wing and the enemy. As such, aiming backwards as a gunner is useless because a pilot will never fly in a straight line and take hits. A Y-wing is not going to outrun anything.

Invariably, both the pilot and the gunner will focus on the same enemy because as a pilot tries to keep the crosshairs on that enemy, it becomes the easiest to hit for the gunner.

I can take you up in my Y-wing and show you if you don't believe me. :D (Soon to be renamed "The Purple Predator")

I'd say the gunner spot is good for people who are not skilled pilots, but would like to play too. :D

As far as another set of eyes... a pilot should be able to find the proper target in 1/4 the time it takes the gunner to type "Purple-2, there is a TIE on your six".
