On the Constitution Class, the key factor of a starship and/or crew in the Star Trek Universe is versatility. Sure the Constitutions may not have been straight death machines or it's officers all combat hardened "space-quistadors", but in most of the situations that the Enterprise, for example, ran into, raw combat ability would not have helped. The scientific and improvisational ability of the the ship and the crew came to the fore.
Take your "death Bugle" example :-D (The Doomsday Machine

Space threw curveballs at the Enterprise. Those other ships were strictly fastball hitters.
Then again, maybe if Captain Obi was at the helm...

Did I ever tell you about the time I was at a conference in vegas, got drunk at quarks, and started a fight with a Klingon. Well, I still think he started it. I was just planning to finish it.
After we exchanged some heated words, he decided that I was in fact a warrior and decided to live to fight another day by laughing it off and pointing me towards the Federation survival manual if I wanted a real good laugh. (it is almost three inches thick. that did make me laugh)
So the point I am trying to make is that I would feel at home in the Klingon Empire, and kind of like a useless warmongering fool in any other society.
Of course I have managed to play two non combat characters in this game now forever and I enjoy it. But I couldn't see myself as a science officer or an engineer for the federation.

That's a funny story for sure. And, I'm just teasing, you Star Mongol, you.
I've heard about that Las Vegas attraction and look forward to visiting it one day. Do they have a Dabo Wheel? What about Domjot?
I'd love to have a Naussican glare my way and grunt:
"Hu-man...? Play Damjot, Hu-man?" :-D
For me, I think that I'd rather be one of Romulans. The old style Romulans, that is. The had a vibe that I can only describe as "ruthless elegance". I dig that. That vibe is what I constantly try to fine tune with Keer.
If you want to see some good Star Trek lore, and a good story in itself, hunt down a book called The Romulan Way.
Half the book is set in the "present" (2200's). The other half outlines origin of the schism of the Vulcans and the revolutionaries that rejected logic and became the Romulan Empire. Very good story. Epic quality.
You can even skip through the present story and just read the historical one without dimishing the story overall.
I dare you to check it out and not want to be a Romulan, then. :-D Especially with the equal role that females own in that society.

Oh yeah and the other guy I talked to was a Borg that was a federation officer at the battle of Wolf-359. He was great. And as far as gaming tables... I was drinking what they called a Warp Core Breach. Had 4 different rums in it and it came out in a fishbowl. THey also dropped a nitrogen tablet in to make it bubble and steam. After four of those I don't even remember the walk back to my hotel. (two miles back to the Golden Nugget in Old Vegas)

"D" to the Triple "o", that would be righteous, I'm so much more a 23rd century fan (original) than 24th.MrDooo wrote:How bout different servers different timelines. OOOOOOOOOO
Though, I know there's absolutely no way that they spring for two separate timelines, I still love the idea of it...
The game login screen could show you standing before the Guardian of Forever, beckoning:
"Let Me Be Your Gateway. Choose a timeline..."
Too bad that it has about as much chance as "The Secret of Vulcan Fury" finally coming out (cancelled in 1997). *tears*

You know, I was a Next Gen Trekkie as a kid. But what would you do? "Hey guys! Let's brace for impact! AGAIN!!!" "Hey guys...let's go find some crystals or warp coils or something for the reactor core thingy...AGAIN!!!" "Hey guys...let's go get lost on the alien planet...AGAAIN!!!" Lol...don't get me wrong, I love it. I'll take Next Generation over most TV. But what makes Star Trek for me is a lot of the diplomacy kinda stuff that's in it...it's real...mmm...clean and techy. I just can't really see like, combat professions and stuff coming out of it, which is the main playerbase for video games, soooo.........I dunno. I mean what classes could you have? Imagine your typical "hunting party"...Klingon Phaser Warrior, Diplomat / Squad Leader (with the stunning looks of Patrick Stewart!!!), Borg Guy...oh yeah, and the hot medic/counselor chick. Or as hot as they get on Star Trek, anyway.
I'm soooo gunna get shot for this.

You know I thought about that very premise when I first heard about Star Trek Online and it's just come to me that it could go like the old Interplay ST games, 25th Anniversary and Judgement Rites.Dwilah wrote:You know, I was a Next Gen Trekkie as a kid. But what would you do? ....

For those who don't know those titles, they were great! And maybe some of their type of mission solution approach could be re-worked around a Group Quest game mechanic. Like Dwilah said, you had your "colored shirts" or Command, Science, Engineering, and Security responsible for different things. (I swear, if Interplay came out with another of those Trek titles, I'd be all over it. Even if it was still only for Pentium 100. Got one of those machines on ice for when I play games from the good old days....}
Not sure how that would work myself. They'd have to be some darned interesting quests.
But I admit I will be tuning in periodically to check this game's progress...then PM'ing the detailed summaries to Nyase and Tramel in iambic pentameter.
