This is why I fear conventions.... but go anyway

If you cannot recognize Wedge in a crowd, then YOU are the dork!

I mean the first Star Wars cast wasn't exactly all celebrated and beautiful actors. There were some choice dorks in there.
All I'm sayin' is the guy who looked like Porkins deserves a medal for putting the flight suit on.

Because you KNOW people are calling him Porkins.

I don't really like websites that do nothing but rag on people who're just trying to hang out and have a good time. My ex and I used to costume frequently at sci-fi and anime conventions and were the target of some of these types of things. You could argue, well maybe our costumes were bad enough to warrant it, or we were too ugly to dress up, or something like that. But in general I like conventions, whatever you're doing at them, because it's a place for people to hang out who all like the same stuff and you're surrounded by like minds. I don't think it's awesome that so many people get off on these kinds of websites that just piss on people who tried really hard to immerse themselves and make a costume. Especially when some of those costumes were really pretty nice.

Have you read the guys other posts? I always like to follow what a person's posts to see if they insert their foot into their mouth when they post something like this.

Think he's the one in the red hair

That was funny. I'm a fan of Star Wars and have read nearly every book but I wouldn't wear a costume if it didn't involved a costume party with a cash prize at the end of the night for most creative or what not. I dont think people who do are sad but when I see people who look absolutly rediculous in their costume I wonder, "Didn't this person look in the mirror before desiding to come in it?" I mean come on. There are some people out there that just cannot pull off sertain looks so these people must look at themselves and go "yeah I look cool in this."

A lot of cosplaying isn't about people thinking they look cool. It's about the work and effort behind the costume. It's very easy to look at something someone did and say, "They put nothing into that costume. They don't look like the character. That looks like crap!"

People who put time and effort into making a costume, and then actually have the courage to wear it in a public setting, are doing a few things. a) Standing up for what they enjoy, b) Showing that they put effort into their hobbies, c) Making a statement against people who laugh at other people who are too insecure to make a stand or statement of their own, d) Having fun. It's fun to costume.

Costumers are worried about how they look, because it's part of making the costume, but at the same time, you're never going to get a costume that's an exact replica of the character you're emulating. Costuming is for fun and it's in celebration of the show/movie/series/whatever you're costuming from.
