whoa... need some solarcaine for that burn skor?
I work for a bank. If you think about it, how does a bank make money? BY TAKING YOURS! so I don't expect any donations out of them.
I haven't heard anything about donations for katrina from them, and personally, anyone who puts up a wall in the ocean, drains the water out, and builds a house there, is asking for trouble. This sounds pretty cold, but it's common sense. And when they say a week ahead of time OMG!@!@@!1!1 teh Katrina is comin'... and they sat there? WTH did they expect.
Public transportation was arranged for these people, they were given plenty of warning, and they stayed there.
Now Mexico, a country where people live in little cardboard towns, is sending help to these people.
There is no excuse for the lack of common sense displayed there. So now that these people are suffering for their own folly, everyone else is sending money to help them out.
Red cross is the only group I would donate to. You may recall all that missing money from 9/11?

The public transports were arranged for the poor and those who had no other rides. The poor had plenty of opportunity, and you better believe that if something like that was headed my way, and I had no car, or bus to pick me up, I would be walking.

There were enough seats to accomodate the tens of thousands? The wheelchair-bound? The mentally hadicapped that didn't have the power to make the decision to get on a bus? The poverty level of the area I think I heard was better than 30%. Yeah, there are gonna be dumb butts who are stubborn and think they are invulnerable. But I haven't read anything about empty or partially full buses coming outa there. I also haven't heard any figures on what percentage had the choice to leave but stayed vs. those that didn't have the means. However I do keep hearing that every mode of transport was packed to the gills to get the hell out. Most of those being the people who could afford to fill up with overpriced gas or buy a ticket.warsloth wrote:The public transports were arranged for the poor and those who had no other rides. And of course walking is an option. You need to walk about 40 miles just to get around Lake Pontchartrain, then whatever more to get to safe ground. Keep in mind you also have small children in tow and you stopped by the old folks home to pick up grandma.

I think my favorite excuse was "I couldn't take my dog".
But yeah, people were left behind and the superdome, as you can see, got full quick.

Doo, you have a good argument.
so...
In rebuttal all I have to say is... uh...
Actually all I have to say is more negative stuff.

Just saw on Fox News (I think it was the O'Reilly Factor) airial pictures of hundreds of school buses parked in a flooded parking lot, I'm assuming it was the parking lot for the NO school disrticts busses, but I'm not certain.
I forgot who said it, but often in large scale natural desasters (ie: hurricans, forest fires, and earthquakes) local governments will sit on their hands till it gets bad enough to get the state or federal governments to step in. The reason for this is so that the local officals dont have to spend their funds in prevention, clean-up, or repair. Most local officals do this because they see the cost of such efforts leaving little if not nothing for anything else. In most cases all this means is the victums are inconvinenced a few extra days, unfortunatly in this case it cost people their lives. I will give the locals the benifit of the dout in this however since no one could really see the situation there declining to this level prior to the hurricane hitting.

Was that hurricane named Andrew a 4 or a 5? I think that quite a few people had an idea of what was going to occur. The precedent was there.
I think the whole thing, until the military arrived, was a fubar.
