Game Addiction: What Games "Hooked" You?

Sai'nu wrote:For you Privateer fans... do you ever miss that old crate box we used to fly? :D

And did you ever play Wing Commander: Prophecy? It was my understanding that that was some sort of sequel to it.... and too dang bad they scrapped the MMO for Privateer. That would've been hella fun!
Can't remember the ships. All I remember is the sleek ship you finally get. Tried Privateer 2, just wasn't the same. The other's in the series, I never played.

MMO... Privateer... scrapped? Glad I didn't know about it.

I want to smuggle in SWG

Hmm, well I think I'll have to change this a little bit because the question was games that affected me...to be honest, computer games have been a late addition:

Majiang from back in China is probably the most addicted game -- it isn't your matching game but a tile game with suits that plays much like rummy but you get money. I was a majiang-aholic.

Tennis -- I just played it all the time

In the States, I was introduced to:

Command & Conquer (the first computer game) -- this game was a blast and my boyfriend and I would play missions taking turns and teasing each other. And loving to hear the female commando's "CHA-CHING!" when she blew up a target.

Star Wars the rpg -- this is actually where the original idea for "Jinx" came from as it was my character's callsign. She was an X-wing pilot and a lot of fun to play with the group we played it with. I even spotted the Japanese girl in the crazy flightsuit on the web and it was perfect for the character's image.

X-Com UFO Defense -- nobody mentioned this computer game at all! I know it's old I guess but you're a secret agency established to protect earth from alien invaders, from the big eyed aliens to more exotic and horrible things. You created individual soldiers who were like your investigation and defense teams. Your inteceptor would shoot down a UFO and you would investigate with that team. Then you controlled them as a squad, action by action, and it was so tense. And I really got hooked -- I had favorite characters and they developed in skill as you went, and you hated to see one die... Anyway, nobody mentioned it but it's an awesome game if you can find it.

Silent Death -- back when we were up in South Dakota, we pulled out this space fighter boardgame out and we had friends over and all played. I got hooked and we had weekends where we all played out on this giant black cloth space map on the floor.

X-Wing Alliance (back to the computer) -- maybe because of Silent Death, I got into the Star Wars flight simulator; played TIE fighter too which was neat. Of course, I was Jinx.

The Sims -- ok, I'm sick -- lol! I got addicted making up these people and living their lives for at least several months and again years later with the Sims 2.

And of course...my first online role playing experience, SWG. At first I was just playing the game to explore the beautiful Star Wars galaxy, and hardly being much in character. But I think probably within a month, I was always acting as Sepiv "Jinx" Cithe and enjoying any chance to improv.

:???: I think I don't really belong here, but here goes:

Canasta: I wanted to beat my Greatg'ma really badly.
Go: Probably the best game of all time.
Vampire, the Masquerade: As a LARP and a P&P
Tennis
Battletech: I loved the tactics and enjoyed some of the books
SWG: My first MMORPG, but it isn't the game that hooked me...it's the people.

SWG and WoW are the only games that really hooked me.

Other games I really enjoyed but did not lose too much sleep over:
- Pirates! (Amiga version.. and oh that rocked :) )
- Star Wars Rebellion (played this with a friend a lot.. game took forever to play)
- The Sims
- Defender of the Crown (One of the first games with cut-scenes.. had an immersive quality to it. The first time I "won" was the coooolest, the victory music was glorious. :D )

Okay, here's my list:

1. Myst--This was really the first immersive game I've ever played. You felt like part of the world. It's kind of sad(but not unexpected)that Cyan Worlds is disbanding.

2. Tie Fighter-- Truly the first SW game that examined the psychology of the Empire.

3. Tomb Raider-- The original was the best, the puzzles were engaging.

4. Star Wars Galaxies-- Who wouldn't want to be a part of the Star Wars Unniverse?

5. World of Warcraft--My current addiction, beautiful environments, story based questing and appropriate weapons and rewards per level.

I did too say X-com!!! Like I said... wish they'd re-release exactly as it was with better graphics for the XP platform! And, I did play Silent Death.... but I was more into Star Fleet Battles! Gobs and Gobs of stuff to go over! Remember, always save up for an impulse turn 'and' target their bridge!! Muahahahahaha!!!!

Sepiv, Did you think Terror from the Deep sucked as much as I did?

I feel ya, Isleh. Ok, time for some backstory as well.... my SW:TRPG character of Jalen Storm was my 'first' RP experience in Star Wars. Played a Young Jedi... the whole nine yards. Anyway, to shorten this, he was a smuggler as well. When SWG hit; I made him on Chilastra server... Master Smuggler.... then... Meh, quit playing. It was at this time that I pretty well picked out which server I was going to devote myself too; Roun Parteego on Ahazi, Jalen' Storm on Chilastra, or Vreese Sai'nu on Gorath. Well, since a buddy was already playing on Gorath.... I guess I owe that, and the fact that I had what I thought was an original and non-tacky Star Wars sounding name, that eventually brought me here to all of you.

Jalen' is 'still' waiting to be played. Isy, You'll get to smuggle; eventually.

So, I guess we can all say SWG has affected us a lot in recent years! :D

Dune II (PC my friends and I wasted more time then I care to remember, and I still download this online from time to time to waste a few hours)

X-Com (PC)

Legend of Zelda (NES)

Contra (NES up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, A, B, Start)

Castlevania (NES, SNES, PS1)

Battle Chess (I think this really got good on the PS1 the hours my cousin and I wasted on this is just sad)

Super Mario 3 & Super Mario World (NES, SNES) I remember when I got SM3, it was right after the movie came out where the kid wasin a video game tourny, it was like living in a dream for a few days.

FFII-X (SNES, PS1, PS2) This is my all time favorite, I could play any of these today and be happy, in fact if I were stranded on a desert island this would be all I needed to be happy.)

SWG- It's like living a dream come true. Star War's.

I'm sure there were other greats out there that I'm forgetting killed days, weeks, or months of my life but this is good enough.

How could I forget Zelda! omg..

I also got into Phantasy Star (the first 2) on Sega.. those were awesome. :D

I played x-com as well. I am not really into aliens and all that lore, but the game was a lot of fun.

Another one I liked.. Master of Orion. That game was similar to a game I played on a BBS (I think it was called "VGA Planets").

Master Of Magic! (yet another great Microprose game)

How could I forget Master of Orion!! That was a great game. And Star Wars Rebellion for the PC, now that was a time killer. I can still waste days at a time with that bad boy.
