Server Populations
I didn't know how accurate the information was when I read it, and I figured that it would get deleted really quickly so I posted it here for everyone else to enjoy. But what Jabe said is absolutely correct.

Oh so then you are saying this isn't a daily occurance? Well no one said that the server population survey was done in the middle of your pvp battle. Holy shit man. 1 Battle with 150 people in it? I remember Pre-CU crashing the server daily because of our battles on Talus and Naboo.DuoXDuoX wrote:theres no freaking way

you should, considering gorath had the 4th LOWEST populationDuoXDuoX wrote:its not even worth it. I'm having fun so i dont really care if you dont like it.
that either means shutdown or merged to another server
either way, SOE cares little to what happens to your char and stuff

Not to stick my head on the proverbial chopping block. But even if I, or anyone else who is playing cared, what would that do to curb goraths population drop? If it drops to the point where we will suddenly have to merge servers, then we will have to deal with that bridge once we cross it

Well, if I was a dev working on this game, you can bet I would care.Skorixor wrote:you should, considering gorath had the 4th LOWEST populationDuoXDuoX wrote:its not even worth it. I'm having fun so i dont really care if you dont like it.

Tiggs has a livejournal and she posts updates on ocassion. She mentioned in one that she promised to her children that they would not move out of Austin. She had to refuse offers and will now be working out of the game industry.
If this game goes under, each developer will most likley be looking and wondering if they will have to uproot their lives. They care even if it is only self interest.
That number may only reflect people who are actively sending information into the game world.
I don't how many times I've been sitting in tells and then suddenly get auto logged out for inactivity. Could it be possible that while i'm doing nothing in the game world and just in chat (or alt-tabbed out) that I would not show up as one of those numbers?
Anyone know?

The moment you connect to the game, and you are not kicked off the server, you would be one of the numbers. The reason is cause each server has its own IP Addy, you connect to it, and your number is added for that moment that you are in the game, now yes these number's can be taken and could be true.Isleh wrote:Well, if I was a dev working on this game, you can bet I would care.Skorixor wrote:you should, considering gorath had the 4th LOWEST populationDuoXDuoX wrote:its not even worth it. If done during the week at around 12pm EST that would put it in the barren, done on Saturdays, the number would raise. The only way to truely know is to Hack SOE main computers and pull the numbers from them, and they wont release numbers cause its not really our business to know. I do think and believe this gameis dying but I also know it wont get cancelled anytime soon cause new numbers pop up for a moment, then go back down.
Soe has done many many wrongs in their online gaming life, and they will continue to do so untill the company goes under or they move out of MMO's or go somwhere else.
Tigg's was a great person, who loved the Orginal game and did her best to keep the CU as close to it as possible, I commend her efforts and those other devs that have been "Let go" cause they wanted to make the game what the players wanted, Two devs were let go for remarks/suggestions about Pre-cu Jedi being no stronger then a normal profession..they were let go, Tiggs was agaisnt the NGE she was let go. Thunderheart evades serious problems and trys to cover them with talk of beautiful things to come..that will cause more problems. The game will kill itself and that is that.

Well apparently it is done just by using Etheral. Server load numbers are passed down to client and extremely heavy/heavy/medium/light... description is done on local machine. Meaning you all can test it on entering create-character screen, since it is not tracable.
Jabe Adaks wrote:The numbers are from prime hours, about 9pm CST - its posted in the original thread. Ther server IP's and port numbers are accurate, they used to show in Xfire so I know they got their facts straight.
With the correct hacker tools you can count concurrent UDP connections that are on a remote server (e.g. number of players in this case). Pretty sad.

What multiplier should be use to determine number of paid accounts?
I only have one account and my playtime has dropped by about 90% from pre-cu. The first CU dropped me by about 50%, the second about another 25%. (all other servers I had chars on I stopped playing) After NGE I guess I am about 10% of what I use to play pre-cu. I don't think I am a typical representation of those that are still playing. If paid accounts are the determining factor for game viablility (rather then population at any given time) is the game still viabile? I suppose population drops should have been an early indicator that perhaps they were going in the wrong direction. I hope the game doesn't "die" but if it does I hope I am the last person to kill a rabid durni. A little payback for all those times I was kilt while going shopping.
